Thankful Thursday

Maybe we do look alike after all.
Wish you could've heard her giggle when we turned the camera around and saw how our picture turned out.

Electrician Update

Did you check out the book club blog this week? A friend and fellow book clubber was kind enough to share her thoughts on the book. For July, we're going to be reading Castaway Kid: One Man's Search for Hope and Home in case you want to get a head start on hunting down the book. I heard about this book from Room for More. (They are family friends who actually now live in the house I grew up in.)

Now for what this post is really about...

You've been wondering if Mr Robertson Electric is doing any electrical work these day, haven't you? Well, he has! Actually just over a day after we moved back he headed out the door to go brighten someone's life with more lights. It was actually a few weeks ago and a very crazy week, so I don't exactly know what he did. I do know he worked all week and the next and most of the next. God keeps providing work for him. It's quite interesting to watch.

Seriously, this guy has exerted more physical energy this year than a lot of guys out there between helping out on the farm, electrical work and moving; so thankfully this weekend he also had some time to eat a steak dinner fit for a king, and to  relax and catch some walleye and catfish.

Now this week he's back to work, changing people's ballasts, upgrading panels and answering phone calls about scrap wire.

Thankful Thursday

Recently my mom told me something about how it was nice I had such a handy husband, which made me realize I really take that for granted. I don't think your husband is bad if he's not handy, I just hadn't realized that not all men are as handy as mine.

It has never occurred to me that not all husbands would come up with the idea to move their washer and dryer upstairs to make more storage room down stairs and reroute the plumbing, duct and electrical work on their own.
I guess not all husbands make solid wood furniture. (He's got some extra wood lying in our garage if you'd like him to make you something, for a small fee of course.)

It never realized that not all husbands maintain the cars, landscape, fix what needs fixing and can paint without masking.

I did know that not all husbands can take care of any electrical need or want you may have. That however is quite alright, because then you can call my husband to help you out! He's very hardworkin' and handy, and I'm very thankful for that!

Book Club Tuesday

I shared my thoughts over on the book club site today. Check it out if you'd like.

*For you Lincoln area readers, whoever you may be, I'm going to set a date at the end of the month for us to meet. I figure if no one shows, I'll feel completely secure in myself, sitting there alone, reading the yet to be determined book for next month. Alone or with people, I'm already looking forward to it.

Now What? (and Other Random Thoughts Bouncing Around in My Head)

You might say I've just been through a trial phase of life. It was one of those times where I knew God was working on me, and I just kept looking to forward to getting through it. Now I'm through it and feel a little directionless. I'm back to where I was a year ago as far as physical location is concerned.

I keep thinking, "Now what?"

I want what I learned in the last year to change how I live. I want to be comfortable and to enjoy life, but I don't want to settle into life and forget I need God's help every single minute. I want to know God's working on me but not have to have it be painful. I don't want to settle into a meaningless existence by getting caught in the rush and excitement of life with so many options.

I've been thinking those things and then our sermon at church today talked about how we need to be demonstrating to the world around us in a tangible way that Jesus is King. I think of it as working to create heaven on earth. How should I be doing that? Maybe the answer to that is the answer to my wonder of what my purspose is now.

Is my purpose just to keep my kids entertained, educated and socialized through every day of the summer? Is it just to be a help and encouragement to Mr Robertson Electric? I like to do both of those things, but I feel like I need more purpose than that. Is that a right or wrong feeling? I don't know. How by being a mom and wife can I help the world (not just my home) be more like God intended?

I know my purpose it to glorify God, so for now I'll try to keep going step by step, abiding in Him. Hopefully when God shows me a way I can demonstrate His kingdom I'll jump at the opportunity. All I know is I want to keep on the upward trail and don't want to go back to how I was when I lived here before. I am thankful God says He won't quit on me, and I pray I live with my ear open to what He wants from me each day. I think I might even be okay if what He wants for me ends up making me a little uncomfortable.

Thankful Thursday

I get attached to the people who watch my kids when I'm working. I may have gotten extra attached to the families who watched Elliana and Wyatt while we were out West because they were some of the few people I got to know while we were living there. They were friendly faces, liked my kids (or at least made me think they did) and worked with me through the challenges of potty training.

God really brought them into our lives. A few weeks before I started working I really didn't know who would watch our kids. Then my sister's neighbor said her friend's son was moving to the area. Talk about providence.

Elliana got a lot of practice learning to share with Jordyn and had fun playing with her too. She now has a baby in her stomach too just like Dixie did.

I still needed someone for days when I was only working 20 minutes from our house, not 40 minutes. Brad's mom made a phone call to someone who made a phone call.

A few phone calls later this wonderful family dropped in our lap. It was also very divine. I met them one day and asked them if they could watch our kids the next. Nothing like a few days notice. I would often just want to stay at their house instead of going to work or going home. Wyatt may have gotten held more by them than anyone else in his lifetime and Elliana learned about "chopping" (cutting) and gum among other things.

Then I had "Aunt Katie." How many people will say "ya sure" when you call them at the last minute to see if they'll watch your kids for the day? Katie saved the day for us many times and our kids had a blast in the process!

Today  I'm also thankful that I don't have to rush to get ready and haul my kids to daycare for a few couple of months! 'Tis a wonderful thing to work in the field of education!

Havelock Run

Who knew it would be hard to find five people to finish a 10k race? I guess I should have tried harder. I thought I would have over five people, but that was before injuries, sickness and special family events. I just hope the race organizers don't look at results and think, "That Robertson Electric Team was pathetic. Only four people finished. Who tried to put that team together?" I'm trying not to be insecure about it, because I'm reading all about security you know. (It's a good read too.)

I'm also trying to not be insecure after having my brother tell me I looked like Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber when finishing the race. Does this look like Lloyd to you?

I think the wings were a factor. Check them out in this picture from before the race! I take that back. I looked at it again, and just can't embarrass myself by showing you.

Despite the lack of runners, we all really enjoyed running.  Anna sped ahead.

Doesn't she look fast? She was. She finished an entire 30 minutes before Brooke, Shauna and I sprinted to finish in an hour and seven minutes.

Maybe we talked too much instead of thinking about running fast. I don't think we cared because we just had fun. I can hardly wait until next year!

FYI

In case you've quit checking, I have just now posted my final post on my first blog. I would've loved to have linked to more things in it, but I have a huge mess all around me that's more pressing (although less fun) than linking. The post is somewhat sappy, so brace yourself.

Let the Reading Begin

Call us crazy but Ann and I started a book club blog. We're excited about it and hope you won't think we're nuts because we're totally secure in ourselves will enjoy it too.
